Near East Entrance
Lodging options are pretty scarce east of Zion, so don’t leave finding a place to stay until the last minute. Towns are quite small, but individual houses and lodges can be found scattered along the way. Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort offers vacation home rentals, cabins and camping and 4,000 acres of outdoor recreation area as well as spa services, dining options and guides. Mt. Carmel, Orderville, Kanab, Glendale and Fredonia also offer a variety of lodging options, but any major city is hours away. Dining options are not as scarce, although farly flung. In Torrey, stop for breakfast at the Torrey Schoolhouse Bed & Breakfast or for late-night dining at the seasonally-open Café Diablo for a quick small plate sharing of Rattlesnake Cakes or Duck Mariachi. In Boulder, don’t miss the chance to sample Hell’s Backbone Grill, an innovative organic, slow food restaurant that has garnered international acclaim. If passing through Bluff, the San Juan River Kitchen offers organic produce from her own garden. Restaurants like these are transforming the culinary landscape of Southern Utah, as well as the local economy.
