Southern Utah and Zion are world-class destinations, but they have a lot of competition from the surrounding states as well as more national parks than you can shake a stick at. Within easy proximity you will also find the Rocky Mountains, Glacier National Park, Native American reservations and ancient ruins, Death Valley and lakes Mead and Powell. The Sonora and Mojave deserts showcase the arid beauty that draws people from all over the globe and Vegas, the entertainment capital of the world, is only a short hop down the road. Cedar City is centrally located to the national park adventures of Zion, Kolob Canyons, Bryce Canyon and Cedar Breaks. Cedar City is known as Festival City USA and is home of the Tony Award winning Utah Shakespearean Theater Festival and over 20 family friendly events. Surrounded by Dixie National Forest land, nearby Brian Head Resort offers scenic SKY lift rides, 200 miles of downhill mountain biking, alpine hiking, ATV tours, horseback rides and free summer concerts.
Arizona
The Vermillion Cliffs, Pipe Springs, Rainbow Bridge , Sunset Crater, Walnut Canyon and Canyon de Chelly national monuments attest the rich landscape and cultural areas of northern Arizona. Arizona is home not only to the famed Grand Canyon National Park, but the Petrified Forest National Park. Phoenix, Scottsdale, Flagstaff and Sedona are stylish cities specializing in tasty southwestern cuisine.

Utah
Utah is one of the top outdoor Mecca’s in the country. Moab offers world class mountain biking, if you're willing to leave a little skin on the trail. Dinosaur bones and footprints, dramatic arches, slick rock mountain biking, wilderness exploration, Indian ruins, Utah has it. Over in Park City you'll find a trio of incredible ski resorts as well at the Sundance Film Festival in January. Near by Cedar City is also home to an annual Shakespeare Festival, as well another great ski resort, Brian Head.

Colorado
Few states offer as much to do as Colorado. Major ski resorts exist in what seems like every town. Be sure to check out Winter Park and Loveland Resort out of Denver, or one of the many Colorado River raft trips available during the warmer months. You could even view wildlife at Great Sand Dunes National Park or Rocky Mountain National Park. Mesa Verde National Park is home to some of the greatest Ancestral Pueblo ruins in the U.S. Portland, Grand Junction, Durango, Boulder and Denver are all within reach.

Nevada
Many people start and end their tour of Southern Utah in Las Vegas, where flights are cheap and a relaxing spa, and/or gambling, awaits. But don’t forget the great sightseeing wonders that are also along the way. Hoover Dam lies slightly out of the way, but pass through Boulder City, the town that built Hoover Dam and the only nongaming town in Nevada. Drive along Lake Mead National Recreation Area up towards Overton where vermillion cliffs and arches await at Valley of Fire State Park. Stop at the Lost City Museum for a quick overview of the people who lived along the Colorado River over the last 1000 years.

Idaho
With over 70 percent public land, Idaho supplies some great outdoor recreation. Alturas Lake and American Falls reservoir both provide wide access to a variety of al fresco sports. In addition, Idaho has some fantastic ski resorts. Look for Bogas Basin and Brundage near Boise, and Soldier Mountain and Lookout Pass down south.

Wyoming
As well as being home to that iconic national park, Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming hosts the spectacular Devil’s Tower National Monument, a gigantic solid piece of granite over 1200 feet tall. At Bear River State Park you can view wild buffalo and elk, or stop by Fort Fetterman, one of the last frontier forts still standing.
