Put This on Your Summer Must Do List
If you are anything like me, you can't wait to slam down that textbook, strap on your hiking boots and get out in the wild. On most hikers' top hikes in the United States is Zion National Park's Angel's Landing. (Here is a firsthand account of the hike featured below)
Only a five hour round-trip hike, Angel's Landing offers some of the most breathtaking views of Zion Canyon in the entire park. The hike begins at a bridge across the road from the Grotto Picnic Area, in Zion Canyon. The beginning of the hike follows the West Rim Trail. Most of this path hugs the side of a mountain offering a great view as seen in the picture below:

A little into a mile of your hike, you will reach a gap which leads into the aptly named Refrigerator Canyon where it is shady and a cool breeze is blowing.
The next part of the trail is a set of 21 switchbacks that wind very tightly and rapidly gain elevation. Named after the first superintendent of the park, Walter's Wiggles do not pose much of a problem and lead to a broad sandy area known as Scout Lookout. From here you get a impressive view into the Canyon below for those who do not want to make the arduous trek to the top. However if you are one of the brave few who venture onward you will find sharp drop offs and narrow paths waiting for you. (Fear not though, chains to grip are provided on the last half mile of the trail.) When you do reach the summit, however, it makes the strenuous climb worth it. Below you the Virgin River winds around the Organ. The Great White Throne is but a stone's throw away. As wonderful as it may sound on paper, a photo would do it more justice:
